Zettelkastens can produce more than writing
When a Zettelkasten is heavily influencing media consumption choices and creative output, it’s working. It doesn’t matter which variation it is. This is also more inclusive than saying that published writing output is the only output that matters from such a system. What matters is that the writer’s intellectual and creative capacity is always growing in a manner meaningful to their medium of choice.
A game designer, software developer, visual artist, and more have much to gain from the effective use of such a system as long as they are inspired by something that they enjoy. Pre-digital media, the only input method was print media. Now, with tools such as Readwise, the scope of input media has grown, creating a needed redefinition of just what a Zettelkasten can be. This failure to acknowledge a broader scope of media types is where anti-net and even some of the more popular digital approaches fail.
Evolving implementations of Zettelkasten principles need to be more inclusive of inputs and outputs. If a user decides to input visual media, innovative implementations will be able to build the network of inputs with respect to connecting such media.
